Get ready for a weekend of creativity, imagination, and discovery at the El Paso Museum of Art! As part of our upcoming Dia De Los Muertos programming, registered participants will transform everyday recycled cardboard and paper materials into colorful alebrije-inspired creatures rooted in the incredible flora and fauna of the Chihuahuan Desert. Participants will also experiment with natural and Indigenous pigments to add color, character, and personality to their alebrije sculptures, connecting the making process to traditional materials and the vibrant colors found throughout our region. Using recycled materials and natural & Indigenous pigments, participants will design, build, and bring their fantastical creatures to life over two creative days!
Saturday: Build + sculpt
Participants will focus on designing, constructing, and fabricating their alebrije forms using recycled materials. Once completed, the sculptures will be left to dry overnight.
Sunday: Paint + Transfrom
Participants will return to finish decorating their sculptures with color, detail, and plenty of imagination.
