The El Paso Museum of Art is proud to exhibit the esteemed, Congressional Art Competition, featuring the remarkable talents of emerging artists from across the 16th Congressional District in Texas represented by Congresswoman Veronica Escobar. Beginning in 1982, members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor this nation-wide high school arts competition to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.
The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the district. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and a panel of judges select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The overall winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners from across the nation.
The competition for this year features the theme of The Spirit of El Paso, inviting young artists from across the 16th congressional district to capture the essence of the city as a vibrant and welcoming community. From numerous submissions, the top 100 artworks were selected for display at the El Paso Museum of Art. This exhibition highlights the talent and unique perspectives and voices of these individuals. Through various mediums and styles, these artworks serve as a testament to the depth of creativity that exists within our deep- rooted community, and embodies the resilient and vibrant spirit of our city.
