Denise Brown: Seasons
January 12, 2023 - April 16, 2023

Peter and Margaret de Wetter Gallery

This exhibition focuses on Denise Brown’s series, The Four Seasons. The four large canvases capture the significance behind stories and the power within a narrative. The artist integrates her own imagery to reexamines the fables of her childhood and their ties to the development of maturity. While each work is a standalone painting, when displayed together, they become reliant on each other to convey a story tied to the seasons. The motifs within each canvas explore religion, myth, and folklore while alluding to the relationship between predictability and randomness. In her work, Brown explores two opposite yet equal things – the mundane and radical.

Support for this exhibition is provided by the Mellon Foundation, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation, and the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.
