Woody and Gayle Hunt Family Gallery

PAINT: Rachelle Thiewes is an exhibition that highlights a body of work inspired by the vibrant colors of lowrider automotive paint found across the Chihuahuan desert landscape. The art and design of Rachelle Thiewes challenges definitions within the domains of jewelry making and sculpture. Working within the realm of art and adornment, her striking pieces express innovative uses of patinas and luminosity, all while exploring the cultural specificity of paint.

Rachelle Thiewes is a nationally and internationally recognized metalsmith whose sculptural jewelry can be found in over twenty permanent collections. Thiewes is also a celebrated educator who led the Metal Arts department at the University of Texas at El Paso, inspiring generations of artists in the Borderlands
