See Texas through the lens of El Paso native photographer Richard Baron. The Empire of Texas is the first museum showing of thirty-nine select works from Baron’s most recent photographic series. In 2015-16, following on the heels of another series featuring the facades of American skyscrapers, Baron began traveling Texas in search of material ranging from abandoned storefronts and drive-in movie screens to new superhighways. Capturing his subjects in black and white in a standard landscape format, Baron combines a modernist sense of design with a love for both unexpected and iconic Texas cultural markers—from the Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo to a Texas-shaped waffle from a motel restaurant in Corpus Christi.
