See Texas through the lens of El Paso native photographer Richard Baron. The Empire of Texas is the first museum showing of thirty-nine select works from Baron’s most recent photographic series. In 2016, following on the heels of another series featuring the facades of American skyscrapers, Baron began traveling Texas in search of material ranging from abandoned storefronts and drive-in movie screens to new superhighways. Capturing his subjects in black and white in a standard landscape format, Baron combines a modernist sense of design with a love for both unexpected and iconic Texas cultural markers—from the JFK Memorial in Dallas to a Texas-shaped waffle from a motel restaurant in Corpus Christi.
