Monumental alebrijes and marionettes take over EPMA’s Dia de los Muertos!
Alebrijes are based on the work of artist Pedro Linares who created the fantastic mythical creatures in Mexico. Alebrijes usually contain elements of different real and imaginary animals, like multiple heads, wings, horns, and hoofs. Every alebrije is unique and EPMA will unveil it’s regionally inspired monumental mythical creatures!
Celebrated artist collective from Mexico City, Colectivo Ultima Hora, will transform EPMA’s Dia de los Muertos once again with fantastical splendor and color. Visit EPMA and experience calaveras, ofrendas, catrinas, music, art-making and so much more.
Desfile de Alebrijes parade will kick-off at EPMA with mariachis, dancers, marching bands, catrinas and calavera masks, as marionettes and alebrijes, created by Colectivo Ultima Hora, come to life with a final celebratory concert.
Colectivo Ultima Hora is commissioned by the State of Mexico for it’s Dia de Muertos celebration every year for their larger than life marionettes featured in the opening of the James Bond film, Spectre.
Attendees are encouraged to wear Day of the Dead or alebrije costumes and calavera masks.
